How We Select Our Daily Sure Bets (And Why Some Don't Make the List)
A look at the process behind every sure bet shown on our live board, from odds scanning to margin thresholds to why we filter out more than we actually show.
How are sure bets on sure-bets.today selected?
We continuously compare odds for the same event across many bookmakers, calculate the combined implied probability for every outcome combination, and surface only the ones that fall under 100% by a meaningful margin. Each one is re-checked for freshness before it's shown, and anything that no longer clears our minimum margin or can't be verified against current odds is removed, usually within seconds.
What Happens Before a Sure Bet Ever Appears on the Board
Every sure bet you see on our live board has already gone through several steps before it reaches you. Odds for the same event are pulled from a wide range of bookmakers on a continuous basis, not on a fixed schedule, since the gaps that create arbitrage opportunities can appear and disappear within seconds, particularly in-play.
For each event, every realistic combination of outcomes across different bookmakers is checked against the basic arbitrage condition: does the combined implied probability of a full set of outcomes add up to less than 100%? Only combinations that clear this test move on to the next stage, which is where most of the filtering actually happens.
Why We Filter More Than We Show
A combined implied probability of 99.9% technically qualifies as a sure bet, but in practice a margin that thin rarely survives long enough to act on, and even a small delay in placing the second leg can turn a theoretical profit into a real loss once odds move. Because of that, we don't show every combination that mathematically clears 100%, only the ones with enough margin left over to be realistically actionable after accounting for normal execution delay.
This is also why the board can look different from a raw odds comparison tool: our priority is showing opportunities worth acting on, not maximizing the raw count of combinations that technically qualify on paper.
Margin Thresholds and Why They Matter
The margin on a sure bet is simply 100% minus the combined implied probability of the outcomes you're covering. A 2% margin on a 100 stake works out to roughly 2 of guaranteed profit before accounting for execution risk, which sounds small in isolation but adds up with volume and consistency over time.
We weight margin against how fast a market tends to move. A pre-match football market that's been stable for hours can justify showing a thinner margin than a fast-moving in-play market, where odds can shift meaningfully in the time it takes to place a second leg, so the bar for what counts as worth showing isn't identical across every sport and market type.
How Fast Opportunities Get Removed
Odds don't stay still, and a gap that exists one moment can close the next as a bookmaker adjusts its line. Every opportunity on the board is re-verified against current odds on an ongoing basis, and anything that no longer clears our margin threshold, or can no longer be confirmed against live prices, is pulled from the board quickly rather than left up as stale information.
This is also the main reason timing matters so much in sure betting generally: by the time you've read about an opportunity, calculated your stakes, and placed both legs, the market has kept moving the entire time, which is why speed and a reliable stake calculator matter as much as finding the gap in the first place.
What We Can't Control (And Why Some Bets Still Disappear)
Even with continuous monitoring, there are limits to what any odds comparison process can guarantee. A bookmaker can change a price the instant before you place a bet, a market can get suspended during fast-moving in-play action, or a stake limit can prevent you from getting your full intended amount on at the quoted price.
None of this means the underlying selection process failed, it means execution in live markets always carries some risk that a purely mathematical view of odds can't fully eliminate. Our job is to surface opportunities that are genuinely worth acting on as early and reliably as possible, not to promise that every single one will play out exactly as calculated.
Frequently asked
Are the sure bets shown guaranteed to still be available when I check?
Not always. Odds move continuously, and a gap can close between when it's surfaced and when you act on it. This is normal in arbitrage betting and is why speed and double-checking current odds before placing a bet both matter.
Why don't you show every combination that mathematically qualifies as a sure bet?
Some combinations clear 100% implied probability by such a small margin that they're unlikely to survive the time it takes to place both legs. We prioritize showing opportunities with enough margin to realistically act on rather than maximizing the raw count shown.
How often is the data on the board refreshed?
Odds are checked on a continuous, ongoing basis rather than a fixed interval, since arbitrage gaps, particularly in-play, can appear and disappear within seconds.
Is sure-bets.today affiliated with the bookmakers it lists?
We work with a number of bookmaker and affiliate partners, which is a normal part of how comparison sites in this space operate, but our odds monitoring and margin calculations are based on each bookmaker's publicly available prices.
Can a sure bet shown on the board still lose money?
The underlying math guarantees a profit if both legs are placed at the quoted odds for the full calculated stake. In practice, odds moving before you finish placing both legs, or a stake limit preventing the full amount, can turn a theoretical sure bet into an unhedged position, which is an execution risk rather than a flaw in the selection process.
